Phoar! The above pic of the Cairngorms yesterday. It's like another country up here just now. Especially with the celtic lilt of Gaelic sounding from the radio speakers.
A big big house and a big big party to cook for! This is Bob Dylans’s Cairngorm home and what with only four and a half hours of darkness it sure is a House of the Rising Sun, and soufflés. Twilight ends at about 11pm and begins at 3.30ish in the morning. With 21 merry people to feed , it’s lovely to be able to drink the views like a thirst quenching cup of tea (Scottish heather-blend tea, of course).
One night, inevitably, we had a Scottish theme. Scottish smoked salmon & Crowdie pate, Butterflied venison with turnips and wild thyme, haggis on the side (!) and a huge cranachan. G R-R played the enchantingly occult pipes at the beginning and the end. A majestic supper!
I’m not sure if there’s a big brass bed in one of the bedrooms but I’m
sure there must be. Whether there is or not, ‘Lay Lady Lay’ was my soundtrack
for the week.
